Dr. Jeff Fahy – Specializes In Designing Customized Treatment Plans For Women To Treat Menopausal Symptoms And Female Sexual Dysfunction

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (January 27, 2016) — Menopause can bring on a number of unwanted symptoms to the women experiencing it. These include hot flashes, irritability, fatigue, insomnia, skin changes, and even sexual desire dysfunction (also known as poor libido).  However, women do not have to suffer in silence – there are ways to treat poor libido and all these symptoms – and Dr. Jeff Fahy with Premier Women’s Health has specialized in this type of treatment for the past 20 years.

Traditional methods for treating sexual dysfunction have included testosterone treatments, which increase a person’s circulating testosterone. This can be very effective for helping those with a lower sex drive get back to where they want to be.

“Increasing a woman’s circulating testosterone is the most successful way to treat sexual desire dysfunction during menopause,” Fahy said. “I have been successfully treating low libido in this manner, mostly with bioidentical hormone pellet implants for the past 20 years.” states Dr. Fahy.

JeffFahyMDBut, for some who can’t take testosterone because of the potential side effects there is also a new drug that was recently released to help women with poor libido. Addyi is from Sprout Pharmaceuticals, and is touted as the “female Viagra.” This prescription drug was released on Oct. 17, 2015, and is designed to enhance a woman’s sexual drive. It does have some potential side effects so, just like testosterone therapy, women taking Addyi should be carefully selected and managed by their doctor.

He specializes in the treatment and surgical intervention of pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence, benign pelvic masses and pelvic pain, and he also has advanced training in the treatment of sexual dysfunction (which includes low libido, lack of sexual response, inability to climax).  (Photo: Dr. Jeff Fahy)

With the pros and cons of each treatment, it is important to discuss all options with your doctor when deciding what best fits your lifestyle and health background.  According to Fahy, “each woman with menopausal symptoms has a unique story,” so he customizes his treatment with respect to each patient’s system complex, medical history, and current state of health.

Solutions For Common Skin Care Issues With The Menopausal Woman

Licensed team of women’s health specialists offers tips for treating skin issues from all angles

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — When dealing with menopause, skin changes are also a major concern for the women going through this serious life change. At Premier Women’s Health (PWH), Dr. Jeff Fahy and his team are poised to treat these types of changes from the inside out and the outside in.

When going through menopause, hormonal fluctuations can cause thinning of the skin along with loss of elasticity, pigment change, and unwanted hair development.

“When we have proper hormone balance the whole body benefits from that,” Dr. Fahy said. “When we are out of balance, every tissue in the body has some sort of hormonal responsiveness and everything can suffer.”

To treat this issue from the inside, Dr. Fahy uses hormone replacement therapy in various forms to treat the overall symptoms of menopause along with the skin issues women face. Jessica Thompson, L.E., PWH licensed esthetician, treats skin issues from the outside with topical skincare products and laser skin treatments. These treatments also help with other signs of aging from environmental exposure.

The Laser Skin Care Center at Premier Women’s Health services include facials, peels, mask treatments, peel alternatives, microdermabrasion, photo-rejuvenation and more for women of all ages, skin color and types.

“We try to harmonize to treat the whole person,” Fahy said. “Our goal is to optimize people’s health and healthy skin through whatever means are safe and reliable.”

Fahy will be discussing skin changes and key topics women going through the stage of menopause are dealing with including common symptoms and overall treatments, at the Red Hot Mama Event: Understanding Menopause on Jan. 12, 2016, at 6 p.m. at the Infirmary Eastern Shore Medical Complex main lobby.

For more information on the event and to make reservations, call 251.937.2380 or visit www.drfahy.com.

Red Hot Mama Event: Understanding Menopause

Local Gynecologist, Dr. Jeff Fahy of Premier Women’s Health to Discuss Menopause and Tips to Enhance Quality of Life

JeffFahyMDBAY MINETTE, Ala. (December 3, 2015) – It’s cold outside but many women are feeling the heat at irregular times as a result of menopause. To help, Dr. Jeff Fahy with Premier Women’s Health is hosting the Red Hot Mama Event: Understanding Menopause on January 12, 2016.

All Red Hot Mamas, or those soon to be there, are invited to attend the community outreach event sponsored by Infirmary Health on Tuesday evening, January 12 at the Infirmary Eastern Shore Medical Complex main lobby (located across the street from Home Depot). Fahy, a Yale-trained and board certified gynecologist and pelvic surgeon, will discuss what menopause is, the various symptoms that women encounter, treatment for these symptoms – specifically hormone replacement therapy(HRT), and will even offer advice for women’s families on how to get through this time. Doors open at 6 pm for registration and dinner and the event begins at 6:30 p.m. with Dr. Fahy’s presentation.

According to Fahy, “each woman with menopausal symptoms has a unique story,” so he customizes his treatment with respect to each patient’s system complex, medical history, and current state of health. The majority of women who have not yet had surgery go through menopause around age 50 while younger women can be rendered menopausal by surgery for other conditions. Additionally, some women have had a hysterectomy while others have not. (Photo: Dr. Jeff Fahy)

The main form of treatment for menopause is hormone replacement therapy, which comes in a variety of forms including troches, pills, injections, patches and bio identical pellets. The different versions treat different symptoms but all are designed to improve the quality of life of those going through menopause and are tailored to the individual patient’s needs.

“Each patient is unique and it’s important that we tailor hormone replacement therapy to the individual and try to maximize the benefit of HRT while minimizing any side effects,” Fahy said.

He will discuss these topics more in-depth at the talk while also answering specific questions. In addition, Dr. Fahy will talk about skin care changes that occur during menopause, providing information on skincare services available through his offices with Jessica Thompson Licensed Aesthetician, Licensed Laser Technician, PCA Certified Skin Care, Premier Women’s Skin Care Center.

A delicious dinner will be served for all attendees with reservations. There is no charge to attend however reservations are required and can be made by calling 251.937.2380.  For more information, call 251.937.2380 or visit www.drfahy.com.

South AL Gynecologist, Dr. Jeff Fahy of Premier Women’s Health Adds Subspecialty Board Certification in Urogynecology to Credentials

DrFahy_northbaldwinBAY MINETTE, Ala. (September 23, 2015) – Dr. Jeff Fahy of Premier Women’s Health is a Yale-University trained, board certified gynecologist and pelvic surgeon practicing with Infirmary Health Systems. And with his recent board certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS, also known as urogynecology), Dr Fahy is bringing the latest specialty in female care to South Alabama.  Dr. Fahy’s offices are located in Bay Minette and Daphne.

FPMRS requires three years of specialized fellowship training after residency, focusing on advanced pelvic surgery and treatment of female pelvic disorders.  Dr. Fahy obtained his subspecialty board certification in September of this year, having been a practicing and teaching urogynecologist for the past 13 years.  Prior to this Dr. Fahy was in general Ob-Gyn practice, following his board certification as a generalist in 1999. (Photo: Dr. Jeff Fahy)

“I’m proud to be a part of this subspecialty that provides highly specialized care to women with pelvic disorders,” said Fahy.

Board certification means a physician meets nationally recognized standards for education, knowledge, experience and skills to provide high quality care in a specific medical specialty, according to the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). It is a way for physicians to go above and beyond basic medical licensure and practice.

“For 13 years, I have worked to provide the highest quality gynecological care to the women of South Alabama,” said Fahy. “This subspecialty certification in urogynecology is just one more way for me to ensure my patients are getting the best treatment possible.”

This subspecialty certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery was established in 2013 by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Board of Urology. This focus on urogynecology means that Fahy is certified to treat conditions affecting a woman’s entire pelvis.

According to the ABMS, a subspecialist in this field “is prepared to provide consultation and comprehensive management of women with complex benign pelvic conditions, lower urinary tract disorders, and pelvic floor dysfunction.”

Additionally, one-third of women in the U.S. will experience pelvic disorders in their lifetime (National Institutes of Health).  Symptoms include feeling pressure, urinary or fecal leakage, pain during intercourse, frequent urination or inability to empty bladder.

Women that have had multiple pregnancies or vaginal delivery are at higher risk for developing prolapse. (Photo: Dr. Jeff Fahy)

“Prolapse is a distressing condition that may negatively affect a woman’s quality of life,” said Dr. Fahy. “There are surgical and non-surgical treatment options available, states Dr. Jeff Fahy.  Prolapse treatment options may vary depending on the type and severity of the prolapse as well as general health, age and desire to have children.
